Thanksgiving will be different this year.
The COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting Americans, and cases continue to rise. But the
holidays are dear to most. While some people will enjoy eating with their family or people in their pod, others may connect with their family on Zoom – or spend Thanksgiving alone. Born-and-raised Germantown resident Calvin Butler says he won’t be attending large gatherings.
“I don’t have many plans for this Thanksgiving,” Butler says. “We used to plan family dinners, everybody did, and we always enjoyed the family gatherings. Now I miss them even more because of the pandemic and things of that sort.”
But in Germantown, a few mutual aid projects are making things a little easier. A tight-knit community is getting tighter this Thanksgiving. With the holiday less than a week away, organizations and community members are offering food. Turkey giveaways and grocery distributions are happening in Germantown until Thanksgiving and the number of events is impressive.
