On March 16th, The City of Philadelphia temporarily shut down all non-essential businesses. Businesses were told to keep doors closed until further notice, leaving many out of work.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, two questions arise among many. What makes a business essential or non essential, and what are the effects on workers in both kinds of businesses?

This Thursday, April 9th from 5 to 6 pm, Germantown Info Hub, in partnership with G-town Radio, will host a live call-in show featuring Councilmember Kendra Brooks. Host Letrell Crittenden, co-researcher at the Info Hub, and Brooks will discuss issues important to those currently unemployed because their job or business was deemed non-essential. They will also talk about the many workers who suddenly find themselves classified as “essential” on the front lines of the pandemic.
