“What if changing the way journalists cover gun violence could actually prevent shootings and save lives?”
This is a question posed by The Initiative for Better Gun Violence Reporting a project initiated by veteran journalist and educator Jim MacMillan. MacMillan, who is starting a fellowship at the Reynolds Journalism Institute, spent more than 16 years covering gun violence and spent years researching how gun violence reporting affects the public.
Nichole Currie of Germantown Solutions, a podcast series powered by the Germantown Info Hub, sat down with MacMillan to learn more about his research.
MacMillan will present his work at Germantown Behind the Headlines: Covering Gun Violence on Wednesday July 17th at 6:30pm. RSVP and details here.
