Germantown residents may know they have a new option to get their morning caffeine fix.
What they may not know is that the owner is one of their neighbors.
Ultimo Coffee opened a new location on Wayne Avenue in Germantown. This is the fourth shop for the Ultimo franchise, which is based in Philadelphia.
Its founders, Aaron and Elizabeth Ultimo, moved from South Philadelphia to Germantown two years ago. While they loved their new home and neighborhood, Aaron, Elizabeth, and their three children, missed having their coffee shop around the corner. With Ultimo Coffee already residing in the center city neighborhoods of Newbold, Graduate Hospital, and Rittenhouse, the Ultimo’s felt it was time to bring their brand to the historic neighborhood.
“When we saw the development at the corner of Wayne and Rittenhouse, we were intrigued,” said Aaron Ultimo. “We were further intrigued when we found out that the space had been slotted for a coffee shop but that things hadn’t worked out. We immediately jumped at the chance and connected with Walt King, the property owner and developer. Here we are nearly a year after our first meeting with Walt with a beautiful, new coffee shop.”
Ultimo Coffee in Germantown is meant to act as a hub for its visitors, one where neighbor can meet neighbor.
“I love the look of this café,” said Aaron. “We were heavily involved in and executed much of the design and we are proud of the way it all turned out. There is tons of room for lots of people. Having a space (that large) has always been a dream of mine.”
With bright red ceiling beams and hexagon tile floors, Ultimo Coffee in Germantown is a coffee shop that is aesthetically like no other in the neighborhood. He hopes Germantown residents will stop in for what he feels is an excellent cup of coffee.
“We have always strived to provide the best possible cup of coffee we can imagine. We have a strong belief that coffee should be sweet, clean, vibrant and delicious.”
There are plans to unfold a variety of food as well. While the shop currently serves pastries from local bakeries, Ultimo plans to develop the menu with breakfast and lunch items.
Ultimo Coffee is located on 5901 Wayne Avenue and is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m.
